We’re still up and running!
During the current Covid-19 crisis we have made necessary changes to how we work. But that doesn’t mean that we’ve downed tools; we are doing our best to keep serving our members! Although we can no longer meet face to face each week that has not stopped us from running the club nights. Keeley, our Juniors club leader, has pioneered our first ‘Virtual Squad’ online sessions and so far 76% of Juniors have participated. They have enjoyed a challenging Easter egg hunt, spotting craftily hidden eggs in pictures of Keeley’s garden and also taken part in quizzes, Pictionary, Simon Says and musical statues via Zoom. They've all been great sports and so have the many parents who've joined in these fun sessions and supported The Squad throughout this difficult, transition period.
But we still have more work to do. We are currently exploring ways to extend the weekly virtual club to Vets club members, some of whom would benefit from computer training, and to club members who don’t have access to a tablet/PC and/or the internet. We’re busily submitting funding applications with the aim of procuring the necessary tablets and training. We'll keep you updated on our progress and would greatly welcome any assistance to help us roll-out the virtual club to all our members.
The trustees and club leaders are also meeting regularly online to run through our contingency plans and to prepare for the future. We are getting used to our new virtual board meetings as you can see from the picture! Of course, our ultimate goal is to re-open as soon we can. Government guidelines currently cover schools, retail outlets and other essential services, but we’re awaiting more guidance for community groups and clubs. We need to be positive that we are able to put the required hygiene and social distancing measures in place to ensure the safety of our members, club leaders and volunteers. We're reviewing this continually but bear with us as safety comes first.
